When I was going to music school my friend and I would marvel and sigh as we listened to “Together Again” (the second album featuring duets by Bill Evans and Tony Bennett). We’d often wonder just how the album could be “SO beautiful and SO perfect”? The music was and still is captivating and their exchange remains effortless and free to this day. How did Tony Bennett and Bill Evans do it? I know now that it was their musical mastery, a bit of magic and a gorgeous collection of standards. I especially love their collaboration on “You Must Believe in Spring”. It is a reflection on hope and fragility.
