Take a moment to fall in love….
This is exactly what happened first time I heard Laura Mvula. She is a refreshing musical voice in what sometimes can be a bland and dreary lanscape. Her album, Sing to the Moon, not only showcases stellar songwriting, stirring vocals and musical performances, but is also full of glorious ear candy, thoughtful arrangements and cinematic-like production. Everything about this album is perfect. Some say that her musical storytelling, delivery, thoughtful is akin to the great Nina Simone. You do get hints of Nina, but you also get the sense that Mvula is a serious life long student who is creative, curious, unique and constantly searching to be honest and expressive. I’d also recommend that you check out her latest release with The Metropole Orkest. If you’re serious about music, you need to get serious about Laura Mvula.
