It was Miles Davis’ birthday this week, he would have been 89 years old. I often like to wonder what sorts of things he would have done if he were still alive. Who would he have collaborated with…Hendrix, Run DMC, Spike Lee…? Would he have continued to push musical boundaries? Oh and what would he have said about popular music and technology today?

I feel like we sort of know those answers in some way. Whatever Miles Davis created would have been musical, thoughtful, edgy, visceral, and emotional. He was truly one of a kind. His musical voice is still so distinct and identifiable. I like to thing that’s because he knew what he wanted to say and how to say it. He just kept refining his ideas and expanding his vocabulary. I’m sure any artist would say that is their creative goal, their life’s goal.

Thank your vision and for the music Miles, Happy Birthday (you know he would have thrown an “MF” in here, right? Ha.)!
