Happy spring! I am always surprised and relieved when spring is here and dark days and winter rain (or snow) are behind us. Hopefully you are can embrace the freshness of the season with lightheartedness and none of the angst or yearning that Carmen McRae sings about in this week’s selection.
Carmen McRae is one of my favourite singers because she was no nonsense, efficient and direct. Her phrasing was so conversational that you couldn’t help but be drawn into her delicious narrative. She oozed confidence and could make any melody submit to her will. Hear her now on this week’s selection, “Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most”. Also, take another listen and soak up the glorious poetry of this song….”my heart tries to sing, so they won’t hear it breaking…” Ugh, It’s so perfect, it hurts.
