This exciting annual event kicks off Black History Month on Saturday, February 1st at 7:30 PM. As well as the regular performers – The Marcus Mosely Chorale, City Soul Choir, The Sojourners, and TriVo – this year’s concert also features three very special guests. On the bill are legendary singer/actor Leon Bibb; the now-94-year-old Vancouver jazz singer Eleanor Collins; and from Oakland, California, Black cultural historian/singer/percussionist and founder of the Cultural Heritage Choir, Linda Tillery. Music director is Bill Sample, with Michael Creber on keyboards.
This year’s concert will particularly recognize and honour Canadian Black history. Guest speaker is Vancouver Park Commissioner, Constance Barnes, daughter of the late Emery Barnes – BC politician, professional athlete, and social worker, known for his activism in social justice, human rights, and poverty. Constance Barnes continues his legacy of a “tradition of change and community participation.”
This concert will raise funds to support St. Andrew’s-Wesley’s Community Outreach Program.
Special thanks to media sponsor and host, Marc Lindy of Co-op Radio’s GOSPEL TRAIN.
